Volunteer Level Designer
- Volunteer
- Remote
- Entry level welcome
- No coding required
We are looking for a volunteer level designer. You do not need commercial experience.
Reflective Realms is building its first Steam title: a 2.5D physics puzzle-action game in a DOS / Windows 3.x aesthetic. The player rolls an AI orb through corrupted computer sectors — tiles, objects, enemies, modules, CRT UI, and a glitchy system-failure atmosphere.
What we need
You lay the levels out in Godot and set their pacing: tilemaps, routes, optional branches, exit conditions, and playtest feedback. Teach the player a mechanic first, then test whether it landed. You work with existing mechanics and assets — no need to write code.
Levels are needed both for solo play and for co-op, and the two pull in different directions: a room that reads well alone can fall apart when two players can split up, and a co-op puzzle can stall a lone player entirely. Designing for both is part of the job, not an afterthought.
A plus
- Comfort with top-down puzzle flow
- Readable telegraphing
- Avoiding soft-locks
- Godot editor or similar tile-based tools
Format
This is unpaid volunteer work for as long as development lasts. In return you get a project for your portfolio that will actually ship. Legally it is not employment: there is no contract and no guaranteed payment.
We agree your share of revenue before you start, so you know the terms up front rather than hoping. It is a share of revenue, though — if the game does not sell there is nothing to divide, and that is fairer said now than later. Agreeing terms binds neither of us.
- Where
- Remote, flexible hours, small team.
- Preferred
- Novi Sad, Serbia — for occasional meetups and playtests in person.
- Working language
- Russian. English is useful but not required.
No big-studio CV required — a strong portfolio, personal level drafts, or game jam work matter more.
Thank you
